Serving a sausage, Aussie style

Image result for aussie sausage on bread

Here is some recent important and expert advice from Facebook on how a sausage should be presented and served when it comes off the barbie. It is how they roll Down Under and should be leaned by heart if you are a Pom or some other kind of foreigner and are invited to an Aussie BBQ. Aussies have etiquette too, it’s just different.

“… there is a very specific way in which the feed should be built. It must be on a slice of white bread that is so cheap that it sticks to the roof of your mouth, the sausage must be a real sausage and not a pale hot dog or Frankfurter imitation. It must be laid at slightly off kilter, corner to corner.

There are NO exceptions to these rules.

The only personal choice allowed is the selection of buttered or un-buttered white bread, and the addition of onions if you are uncouth. Sauces are limited to tomato or mustard. Ketchup is not to be allowed at ANY time.”

Now you know…

Do you pray before you eat?

It is true of course, Italian Moms know how  to cook, and we are happy to say that they teach their children too, including our own Italian Chef!

We have delicious ready-to-eat Ravioli meals, and can prepare a variety of fresh pasta to order including Gnocchi, Ravioli and Tagliatelle .

Some more details on our pasta products can be found here in our Good Pasta Guide.

A small price rise

Sadly, and after two years with unchanged prices, we are forced to recognise economic reality and increase prices by an average of 3% and these increases apply from January 1st 2018 and are reflected in our revised price list.

Apple and Cherry sourcing prices are stable so the fruit pies and their crumble versions remain the same as do the Steak & Guinness. Newcomers Cottage Pie and the ready to eat Raviolis also remain as at their launch prices.

Apologies for this development, we just hope you will agree that our products remain great value in this market!!

Kind regards, Santi

Sticking with Aussie and high quality local beef

Buffalo

You may have heard that the Government has chosen, as a mitigation against the crazy beef prices we have experienced since before Ramadan, to import buffalo meat from non-foot and mouth affected areas of India.

Santi’s Premium Pies have however chosen to stick with Aussie and high quality local beef in all our products though, to cope with those crazy prices, we will be raising the price of our Steak and Steak and Kidney Pie products by 2,500 Rp. from next week onwards 😦

Asian Fusion 2016

Love baked in
baked into every pie!!

Dear all …. at the request of a small number of customers we quietly added Chicken Rendang a few weeks ago and, despite no mentions of it here or on our Facebook account, demand has grown nicely, just being on the menu was enough!

One of our most popular offers in the past has been our “Asian Fusion” package and we will now do that one again with the Chicken Rendang added to the mix.

So the package is now:

* 2 x Beef Curry
* 2 x Chicken Curry
* 2 x Beef Rendang
* 2 x Chicken Rendang

That is 400,000 value – and we are taking off 15% or 60,000 Rupiah if you just mention “Asian Fusion 2016” when you order this week.

To order just send us an e-mail  telling us what you want – or make your choices on our web-based order form here.]()

From frozen to in your tummy in 10 minutes!!

We have long recommended the use of a conventional oven for heating our pies as producing the finest results and, more recently added the Air Fryer as being capable of producing similarly good results.

OxoneWe know however that many of you simply don’t have the time to use the oven when heating on of our meat pies from even a chilled state can take 25-30 minutes – and that few of you have the excellent Air Fryer which can halve the time needed.

This means that many of you pop the pie in the microwave, often enough from frozen – and turn it up full blast for less than 10 minutes. Not a recommended method as it produces a rather soft pastry, however, salvation is perhaps near at hand with this tip from one of the most enthusiastic and decicted fans of pies – and our pies in particular!

You may notice thay he is an Aussie and therefore prefers to eat his pie from the hand – this is not compulsory for non-Aussies!!

1. Take frozen pie out of freezer
2. Cut off one corner (approximately 1 inch diagonally) of the kryovac plastic bag the pie somes in. (just enough for the steam to exit during heating)
3. Place the pie, still inside the plastic bag, in the microwave (foil pie plate and all) and microwave on high for 3 to 3.5 minutes
4.Take out from microwave, turn over, place back inside the oven and microwave for a further 2 to 2.5 minutes.
5. Take pie out from microwave and drain any condensation from the plastic bag via the diagonal cut
6. Remove pie from plastic bag and pie plate and place on a plate with a paper towel under pie.
7. Hold with a paper towel and eat the pie crust down i.e. upside down. (the top crust is harder, so does not rupture and let the juice out. kind of acts like a plate)

“I have done hundreds of pies like this. The foil pie plate has no effect at all on the microwave during heating (I know you are not supposed to microwave foil, but ……maybe it is non-conductive ?)
This works really great on the steak and cheese pies, but is fine for other pie varieties too.
Microwave times may vary with the model of microwave you have.
Leaving the pie in the plastic bag keeps the moisture in while heating, and eating it upside down keeps all the juices inside the pastry”
So, there you go, from frozen to in your tummy in 10 minutes for busy professionals on the go!! We have not tried it but our faith in, well, let’s call him Ivan, is 100%.
Please do let us know how you get on if you should try it.

Change of the right sort

FeedbackObtaining, analysing and reacting to customer feedback is considered golden in any modern management treatise you will come across these days.

We have encouraged feedback relentlessly from the very start of our business but, with a customer demographic composed almost entirely of busy professional folks, we have gotten used to 1 or perhaps two reactions a week from you.

So no one was more surpised than us to be hit by a relative tsunami of 6 pieces of feedback last week, happily all of them positive and encouraging …. here they all are:

Feedback

In terms of acting on customer feedback, we believe we have a record that stands up to most – with muliple actions that have increased the quality and breadth of our products.

Many thanks to all those who have ever contributed and brought about change of the right sort – and please don’t stop!!

PS a later, follow up contribution from IB of Kuningan tickled us hugely, the first ever Great Indonesian Bake Off ended in a draw!!

We did a shoot-out between the Oz meat ‘n cheese V’s the Steak ‘n cheese. Xxxxx ikes the Oz pies and I prefer the Steak ‘n cheese (by a mile) so at least we will not be fighting over them.
Those steak and cheese are really scrumptious fare guys. The sauce is killer, and I have perfected the microwave heating technique to keep them moist and yummy. Five minutes from the freezer to the plate.
Then add around 3 more minutes to being out of sight and yummy in the tummy.

Santi’s apple crumble pie has arrived!!

Apple Crumble 1Fruit crumbles are on the “food I love” list of many and, after some weeks spent getting it just right, we have now launched our Apple Crumble.

Full of flavour and with a hint of cinammon, the Apple Crumble is already proving a hit with our customers. To encourage you we have run a special offer on them this week and this will continue next week, so don’t miss the opportunity to try them!

We have plans to extend our range of crumbles in the future, in the unfortunate absence of rhubarb here we may even make a crumble with a native Indonesian fruit, which would be rather fun. Ahead in the queue for development however is that firm Kiwi favourite, the Steak and Cheese Pie, a development once again being driven by strong user support. Watch this space.

The Minis are back!!

miniThe smaller version of our meat pies, the 95g Minis, have had something of a chequered history going from hero to zero in less than a year – and now making a strong comeback!

Introduced by popular demand in August 2014, the Minis did very well for a while after we introduced them, only to slowly tail off – to the extent that we decided to free up freezer space for newer and more popular stuff by only offering them in bake-to-order with a minimum of 24 pies.

In truth we kept them going “off menu” for a few customers who loved them – most often because their kids loved them!

In a development that could have been readily predicted by a contrarian, the moment we took them off the card, we got submerged in orders ……

The minis are of course now all in our new crust format and delicious hot or cold – and brilliant for snacks, sports events, arisans and whatever else ….

We have special prices for our Minis this week as part of their relaunch – and are offering a Mini 3 pack free with every order for 3 full size pies this week – though availability as we rebuild stocks means that this is restricted to the following pie flavours only:

* Aussie Meat Pie
* Chicken Curry
* Chicken and Mushroom
* Steak Pie

And if you want to order Minis on their own then there is a 15% discount on them all this week.

To order any of our pies or under this special offer or  then just reply to this e-mail – or make your choices on our web-based order form here. No need to mention the gratis Minis, we will do this as a matter of course for all orders received thru’ Sunday next.
